This past Saturday morning, professional runner and Olympic hopeful Sara Hall cheered on more than 2,000 central Texans at the fourth annual Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Texas Women’s Half Marathon and 5K. Held at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Bastrop, TX, The Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women’s Race Series is dedicated to promoting female health and fitness by encouraging women to participate in a challenging and fun running event.
Participants enjoyed a scenic, but challenging course, while running, walking and jogging through the Texas pine country. The “girl’s weekend” atmosphere continued well after the finish with live music, wine from Barefoot Wine and Bubbly, post-race shopping, spa treatments and a fun Q & A session with Sara Hall.
“Being a part of the Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Texas Women’s Race was such a great experience, and I’m excited I was able to share this wonderful celebration with these women who share my love and passion for running,” said Hall from the Muscle Milk post-race recovery area. “Running is such a great way to build friendships and lasting memories, and I’m proud of each of the women who worked so hard to finish their race. The entire Muscle Milk family would like to extend a big congratulations to these amazing women!”
Pia-Maria Molin, the overall winner of the half marathon crossed the finish line with a time of 1:30:13. Crystal Kent came in second place with a time of 1:31:51, while Bree Ray crossed the half marathon finish line at 1:31:57 for third place. Suzanne Ray took home the Master’s title with time of 1:40:35
“We were proud to return to Texas for our fourth event and even prouder of the 2,000 women who accomplished an incredible fitness goal,” says Brae Blackley, Executive Director and Founder of The Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women’s Race Series. “These women are truly an inspiration to their families, friends and communities and their commitment to a healthy life is what ZOOMA’s all about.”
ZOOMA was an especially notable achievement for a group of women who completed the H-E-B ZOOMA Girlfriends program. In it’s first year, the H-E-B Girlfriends Program took 15 beginners, paired them with experienced mentors and gave them specialized support through seminars, swag and extra motivation to help them successfully cross the ZOOMA Half Marathon or 5K finish line.
“The H-E-B Girlfriends Program was a huge success,” says Tricia Minnick, ZOOMA Ambassador and H-E-B Girlfriends Program Manager. “Not only did we help 15 women begin or return to a healthy, active lifestyle, but we established the foundation for what we hope will be a key element of the event for years to come.”
