Annapolis Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for ZOOMA Women’s Race Series! The key to a successful race depends on the help from awesome volunteers. Even if you are not a runner, there are numerous ways to get involved. Whether you are volunteering as an individual or part of a group, there are positions available for everyone.

What do I get?

As a ZOOMA volunteer, you will receive an “Official Race Crew” T- shirt, free event parking and the satisfaction of helping others as well as an invitation to the After Party after finishing your duties. If you are part of a group (15 or more volunteers), you could qualify for a donation to your charity of choice! Email for more info.

What positions are available?

In each ZOOMA race, there are many positions that need to be filled.  Every position is incredibly important, so choose something that you would enjoy! If you are part of a group, we offer a sweet donation for groups of 15 or more, and typically suggest groups to staff water stations. We welcome your team to brand the water station as your own and make it fun!

Race Day

Water Stop Volunteers – GREAT FOR GROUPS!
Location:  Annapolis, MD; Various locations along the race route
Time:  6:30am – 11:30 am (times may vary slightly based on the location of the water station)

In long races like half marathons and 10K’s, if a runner doesn’t get enough water, she won’t perform as well, and she could become dangerously dehydrated.  Water stops provide an opportunity for runners to grab some water quickly and continue on with their race.  Water stop volunteers will arrive before the race starts to set up the water station (pouring water, organizing the area so that runners can easily grab cups), distribute cups to the runners as they pass, and finally clean up the area after the last runner has passed.

Volunteers needed: 10-15 per water station; 6-7 water stations

Gear Check Volunteer
Location:  Navy Stadium, Annapolis, MD
Time: 5:30am – 11:30am (or shifts: 5:30-9:00am; 9:00am – 11:30am)

Runners sometimes prefer to keep items with them until just before the race starts, but do not want to actually carry the items during the race. (For example, keys, sweatshirts, water bottles, etc.) Runners to leave their items in a bag marked with their race number at a Gear Check tent, where we keep the items until the runner returns after the race. Gear Check volunteers will collect bags from runners, organize them numerically while the runners are racing, and will give the runners their bags when they come to collect them at the finish line. Because this is a long volunteer job, it may be broken into two shifts.

Volunteers needed:  4-8 (depending on shifts)

Finish Line Volunteers
Location:  Navy Stadium, Annapolis, MD
Time: 6:30 – 11:30am

There are a number of jobs for Finish Line Volunteers. Specific positions will be assigned the morning of the race.

Necklace Distribution: Half marathon and 10K finishers will receive a special ZOOMA necklace to commemorate their accomplishments. Volunteers will stand near the finish line and give each half marathon finisher a necklace.

Water & Recovery Food: After the race starts, volunteers will distribute and replenish bottled water at the finish line.  Bananas will also be available at the finish line for runners. Volunteers will distribute food to runners in the finish line chute and replenish food, as needed.

Clean-Up: Volunteers will help with clean-up and recycling after the race as necessary.

Volunteers needed: 10-15

Course Marshals
Locations:  Annapolis, MD; various locations along the race route
Time: 6:30 – 11:30 am (depending on volunteer location)

Course marshals direct runners as they make their way along the course and make sure that runners follow the course correctly and safely.  Course marshals are also useful cheerleaders for runners – keeping their spirits high and encouraging them along the way!

Volunteers needed: 20 – will be required to attend a pre event meeting the day prior to race day

Cheer Stations/On course Entertainment

Locations: Annapolis, MD; various locations along the race route

Every runner loves to be encouraged while making their way through the course. It helps to keep their spirits high and encourage them along the way! Cheer stations can be as creative as you want – pom poms, poster boards, music, costumes – anything is welcome that is appropriate! We encourage you to be as creative as possible!

Stations needed: 3-4
