Thank you for your interest in volunteering for ZOOMA Women’s Race Series!  The key to a successful race depends on the help from our awesome volunteers.  Even if you are not a runner, there are numerous ways to get involved.  Whether you are volunteering as an individual or as a group, there are positions available for everyone.

What do I get?

As a ZOOMA volunteer, you will receive an “Official Race Crew” t-shirt, free event parking, the satisfaction of helping others, as well as an invitation to the after-party once you’ve finished your duties.  If you are part of a group (15+ volunteers), you could qualify for a donation to the charity of choice!  Email info@zoomarun.com for more info.

What positions are available?

There are many positions that need to be filled at each ZOOMA race and every position is incredibly important, so choose something that you would enjoy the most!  We suggest that larger groups staff water stations – you’re welcome to brand the water station as your own, make it fun!

2 Days Prior to Race Day

Packet Pick Up
Thursday, September 26 |  4-7pm
Bayside Runner – Plymouth
38 Long Pond Road, Plymouth, MA

In the days before the race, race participants must come to one of two packet pick up locations to collect the necessary materials for race morning.  These items include: their race number, a swag bag, and a race t-shirt.  Packet pick up volunteers assist participants in finding their race number, issuing race numbers and timing chips, and distribute swag bags and t-shirts.

Volunteers needed: 4-5

One Day Prior to Race

ZOOMA Fitness Expo & Packet Pick Up
Friday, September 27  |  2-8pm
Sea Crest Beach Hotel

Volunteers needed: 5-10

Race Day

Water Stop Volunteers – GREAT FOR GROUPS!
Location:  Falmouth, MA – various locations along the race route
Time:  6:30am – 11:30 am (times may vary slightly based on the location of the water station)

In long races like a half marathon or a 10K, if a runner doesn’t get enough water she won’t perform as well and could become dangerously dehydrated.  Water stops provide an opportunity for runners to grab water quickly and continue on with their race.  Water stop volunteers will arrive before the race starts to set up the water station (pour water and organize the cups so that runners can easily grab one), distribute cups to the runners as they pass by, and clean up the area after the last runner has passed.

Volunteers needed: 10-15 per water station / 6-7 water stations

Gear Check Volunteers
Location:  Sea Crest Beach Hotel, North Falmouth, MA
Time: 5:30am – 11:30am (or shifts: 5:30-9:00am; 9:00am – 11:30am)

Runners sometimes prefer to keep items with them until just before the race starts (keys, sweatshirts, water bottles, etc.) but do not want to carry these items throughout the race.  Gear check gives runners a place to leave their items in a marked bag with their race number and pick them up after the race.  Gear Check volunteers will collect bags from runners, organize the bags numerically while the runners are racing, and give the runners their bags back when they come to collect them at the finish line.  This job can be broken into two shifts.

Volunteers needed:  4-8 (depending on shifts)

Finish Line Volunteers
Location:  Sea Crest Beach Hotel, North Falmouth, MA
Time: 6:45 – 11:30am

There are a number of jobs for finish line volunteers and specific positions will be assigned the morning of the race.

Necklace Distribution: Half marathon and 10K finishers will receive a special ZOOMA necklace to commemorate their accomplishments.  Volunteers will stand near the finish line and give each finisher a necklace.

Water & Recovery Food: After the race starts, volunteers will distribute and replenish bottled water and bananas at the finish line.  Volunteers will distribute food to runners in the finish line chute and replenish food, as needed.

Clean-Up: Volunteers will help with clean-up and recycling after the race as necessary.

Volunteers needed: 10-15

Course Marshals
Locations:  Falmouth, MA; various locations along the race route
Time: 6:30 – 11:30 am (depending on volunteer location)

Course marshals direct runners as they make their way along the course and make sure that runners follow the course correctly and safely.  Course marshals are also useful cheerleaders for runners – keeping their spirits high and providing them with encouragement!

Volunteers needed: 20 – will be required to attend a meeting the day prior to race

Cheer Stations / On-Course Entertainment
Locations:  Falmouth, MA; various locations along the race route
Time: 6:30 – 11:30 am (depending on volunteer location)

Every runner loves to be encouraged while making their way through the course – it helps to keep their spirits high and encourage them along the way!  Cheer stations can be as creative as you want – pom poms, poster boards, music, costumes – anything appropriate is welcome and we encourage you to be as creative as possible!

Stations needed: 3-4
